Jeff Wall is famous for large scale images of contemporary scenes populated with people, then in the 1990s his interest leaned towards still life. For example, A Sudden Gust of Wind, recreates a Japanese scene from the 19th century. Since the 1990s, Wall employed digital tools to combine various negatives into a montage that seemed like one photo.

Sandy Skoglund was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1946. Skoglund studied studio art and art history at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts from 1964-68. She went on to graduate school at the University of Iowa in 1969 where she studied filmmaking, intaglio printmaking, and multimedia art, receiving her M.A. in 1971 and her M.F.A. in painting in 1972.

Object Description. In the late 1970s Sandy Skoglund began arranging scenes of familiar domestic spaces painted in a monochromatic palette. For this work she created a dreamlike atmosphere by filling the set with handmade, larger-than-life sculptures of goldfish and casting a woman and a boy whose relationship is unclear.

Although case histories were the foundation of Alfred Kinsey's famous studies, he and his researchers also collected related supplementary materials from his subjects -- books, diaries, drawings, and photographs. The Kinsey photo collection numbers 75,000, but only recently have the images emerged from the archives. Peek is the first book to showcase highlights of this extraordinary research.

Sandy Skoglund (b 1946) is established at the forefront of contemporary art in the United States and elsewhere, bridging the boundaries between sculpture, installation art and photography. She is known for her room-sized environments, sometimes peopled with models or mannequins, and often filled with animal sculpures, which also appear in her photographs and prints.

She is the editor of The Critical Image: Essays on Contemporary Photography (1990) and Overexposed: Essays on Contemporary Photography (2000). Between 1980 and 1984 she was curator of photography at PS 1, The Institute for Art and Urban Resources, Long Island City, New York.
